Ustream Rebroadcast: Audio Book Excerpt and Journal Page
This is a very different Ustream Rebroadcast! You'll be listening to an excerpt from NORMAL Doesn't Live Here Anymore which is a book that I wrote and later recorded as an audio book. It's the story of being an unexpected family caregiver for my elderly parents, how I moved from shock and fear into acceptance and eventually to healing and joy. If you begin listening and you find it difficult for some reason, PLEASE stop the video. In no way do I wish to trigger emotionally charged responses. This is my story and how I navigated a challenging time.
As the excerpt is playing, I'll be creating an Art Journal page based upon what I'm feeling as I hear my words. When I was an active caregiver I used this technique at times to diffuse my overwhelming emotions. I'd never heard of Art Journaling! I just needed a way to release my feelings, so I bought the biggest blank book I could find and some colorful art supplies and I began moving my hand. Years later I discovered that what I was doing had a name – Art Journaling.
My early pages are not pretty. Sometimes my supplies didn't work at all when I put things together that didn't like each other. 😉 The act of putting my feelings on the paper always worked. Sometimes I used words. Sometimes I just used color. (see pages from my journals below)
