Mixed-Media Holiday Tags

Is it too early to think about the holidays? They are only a few short weeks away, so let's get creative and make some fun mixed-media tags.

I don't know about you, but I have a plethora of ugly outdated scrapbook papers in my creative space that need new life. During this LIVE recorded stream I showed how to transform them with Elmer's Art Paste and acrylic paint. (If you'd like a more in depth look at Paste Paper, check out my FREE sample video classes Paste Paint is Fabulous and Paste Paper Pizazz.)

The tags themselves are made with left over 140# watercolor paper that I sprayed with diluted Tumble Dyes Inks. I love using Tumble Dyes to create my own ink sprays because I can make an almost infinite number of tints and mixes and when dry, they are permanent so anything added over them will not reactivate the color.

I cut the altered scrapbook papers into rectangles to build a  wonky little tree shape. A quarter inch hole punch created perfect ornaments for the tree along with a couple of tiny hand drawn birds and a star for the tree top. Each piece has been edged with a black marker as shown in the video.

The words are from sets by Tim Holtz and Sizzix. Check out Holidays and Winter.

Of course a winter scene needs a little snow, so I stamped with a rubber stamp of tiny dots that I filled with with White Gelly Roll pen. A bit of Archival Cobalt Ink around the edges, some ribbons and the tags are finished. These would make nice package gift tags or a fun little gift to send someone by mail.

The tree built from words is fun to create, too. I die cut the words and then glued each rectangle to some of the altered papers. The rest of the process is the same as the other tags. It's a fun way to use the word dies!
