Let Your Imagination Run Wild!

When is the last time that you Let Your Imagination Run Wild? Sometimes I get so caught up in the details of the day that before I realize it, a day turns a week and I’m so into my left brain activities that I’ve forgotten all about exercising my imagination. Creating a page like this is a great reminder to take some time - even a few minutes a day - to use the mind in a playful way.

This page began with some paint remnants  from the previously created page. I find that using a page that has some stuff on it is less intimidating. Oil pastels can be a little challenging, but I love using them. The set I use for Art Journaling is a very inexpensive set of 36 sticks. I added washes of fluid acrylic paints between the layers of Oil Pastels and finished it with a bit of Rubber Stamping, Paint Pens and Pan Pastels to highlight my favorite big loopy flowers.

I have a big stash of words and phrases that I enjoy using in my art journals. The LIVE audience during the stream voted for these words - “Let Your Imagination Run Wild”. I think it was a great choice. When the LIVE show was finished I happened to see the quote on the facing page which I edited slightly 😉 to further enhance the page.

Have you ever tried using Oil Pastels in an art journal? Let me know in the comment section below. I love hearing about your experience.

I’ll see you next Friday for another LIVE stream at 2pm Eastern. We’ll flip the page and see what surface we’ll be working on next. (Part of the charm of the Dina Wakley journal is that it contains several different types of pages.
