I have to admit that I’m not what I consider a great card maker, but I really enjoy having a stash of cards with my touch that I can send out when an occasion arises. During this Live Stream, I showed 3 different cards and where I found the inspiration for each.

I recently purchased the book Drawing in Black and White by Deborah Valesquez and it’s fair to say that I’m in love with the techniques shown within. Using craft colored paper as the background for Christmas cards was a new idea for me to try and I really enjoyed the effect. This book inspired the stick Christmas Tree Card. The tree is drawn with a simple ultrafine point black Sharpie with some details in White Signo Uniball pen and extra fine point Posca Paint Pens. I love adding borders around the cards as well as an inked edge. This one is inked with Vermillion Archival Ink. To complete the card, I added a red mat and also a black mat beneath the tree image and then the entire thing is attached to a pre-folded card base.

The Poinsettia Card is inspired by an alcohol ink class I participated in at Soul Sentiments Scrapbooking and Mixed Media Store. My version uses the same rubber stamp by Dina Kowal (dkdesigns) and Impression Obsession, Inc. I created the background with several shades of red Alcohol Ink on white Yupo Paper and the Alcohol Ink Lift-Ink Pad. When totally dry, I embellished with the same ultrafine black Sharpie and a phrase sticker from a Christmas sticker pad from a local craft store. The centers of the flowers are enhanced with Diamond Stickles. The mats behind the card are black and craft and then the entire thing is attached to a pre-folded card base.

The Mosaic Tree Card was inspired by a postcard I received in the mail. I love creating colorful paper with Alcohol Inks and HP Premium Presentation Glossy Paper. This paper is for LASER printers and works beautifully with Alcohol Inks. Once the ink is applied, the paper dries very quickly and because it’s paper, it can be attached to the craft card background with a simple glue stick. The ornaments were hand cut from more Alcohol Inked glossy paper The black snowflakes and the words are from a package of rub-ons by Tim Holtz. The border is created with Sharpie and Posca Paint Pens and the sparkles around the snowflakes are Gelly Roll Stardust Clear Pen.
