Block Printed Fabric Mandala Fun
News Flash! I LOVE Mandalas! If you hang around me very long, I bet you will, too. 😉 In fact, you really should join our newest Mandala Madness Course to learn all my secret Mandala techniques. 🙂
I recently found a fun product called Rub-onZ by Grafix. It's a very interesting 2-part process that's fairly easy to use. There is a bit of a learning curve, but I think the results are totally worth the effort. After taking good photos of my Mandalas, I created a sheet of small sized images. It's so much fun to see them shrunk down like this. I could NEVER draw a Mandala so small, but this technique allows me to use my own artwork in a fun way that wasn't possible before.
After creating the Rub-onZ, I cut them out and applied them to a new vintage-style tin mug that I found at a local craft store. The Rub-onZ were incredibly easy to apply to the mug. I cut some of them in half, too, to make them look more interesting and then applied various Remnant Rubs by Tim Holtz to add words and accents of black between the designs.
I love the way it turned out! The Mandala Mug sits on my table and holds a plethora of pens! If you've always wanted to have your own rub-ons, now you can. Give it a try and let me know how they turn out. Leave a comment below. 😉

During our LIVE Drama-free Friday show, I also showed how to use various Block Printing Stamps in combination to create Mandala designs on fabric. I wish I could explain how much I love the way these pieces of fabric turned out! Seriously yummy!! I chose the following stamps to work with:
- Fabric Creations – 3 Piece Floral
- Fabric Creations – Border Baroque Scroll
- Fabric Creations – Feather
- Fabric Creations – Mini Whimsies
I printed on my favorite heavy weight muslin (from Hobby Lobby) with black Tulip Soft Matte Fabric Paint. I applied the paint to the stamps with a Foam Roller. *Watch the video to see the process.*
Once the paint was completely dry, I diluted various colors of Tumble Dyes and sprayed the background. I even used some diluted silver and gold Tumble Dyes, too, to add a subtle sparkle. (Is there such a thing as subtle sparkle? Lol!)
Now, it's time to use my new fabric! I don't have a project in mind yet, but I'm sure something will show up before long.
Please join me each Drama-free Friday at 2pm Eastern. And be sure to join Mandala Madness. It's not too late to join and participate in the LIVE Show ‘n Share sessions, too. The first Live Show ‘n Share happens July 1, 2017. Join today!
Until next time ~
