It's been a crazy busy week in my studio! Mining Your Muse is in full swing, but it's definitely not too late for you to join the fun. I can't tell you enough how great the live Show ‘n Share Sessions are!! They are filled with inspiration and chatting with other class members. If you're wondering about joining the class, jump on in!!!

Sometimes I just need to draw and doodle! Drawing is not my specialty, but I love to practice because practicing is the way to learn and improve. I find that doodling is the same way. I need to practice because I forget what I like to create.

The Spring 2016 Zen Doodle Workshop magazine totally inspired me and if YOU enjoy patterning and doodling, I know you'll love this issue. The article, Zen Doodle Rocks by Regina Lord on page 73, looked like so much fun that I couldn't resist. 😉

I purchased a package of smooth, flat rocks at my local craft store. After cleaning them with Isopropyl Alcohol, I was ready to begin.

With a script liner, and white paint and water, the process of doodling patterns on rocks is easy and quite beautiful!

It's always great to have some books for reference. My current favorites include How to Draw Flowers and Trees and 20 Ways to Draw a Tulip. You can never have too many books, you know!

When I finished drawing the patterns, I added details in the form of dots by thinning the paint with water. When I do this, I prefer to add water to a pile of paint with a Plastic Palette Knife so that I create enough paint with the right consistency. It's super easy to make dots with the handle end of a paint brush or with the various ends of the Martha Stewart Stylus Set. I really love the Stylus set!

After the paint was completely dry, I sprayed a couple of coats of acrylic sealer over the rocks. Be sure to let this dry thoroughly before handling!
