LIVE! Mixed-Media Art Journaling Page
On this LIVE! Friday stream, it was time for some Art Journaling. I opened my Dylusions Square Journal to a random page and dry brushed a tiny bit of lavender and pale blue paint in the very center. Next, I drew some fun flowers around the edges with various colors of Paper Mate Flair Pens. Next, the magic! Spray with water and watch the colors change. (I first saw this done by Gulf Sprite Christy.) If you've never tried this, I hope you'll get some Flair pens and play with them!
Once the color dried, I re-drew the flowers with a Black Gelly Roll pen and filled in the petals with various patterns. I love this pen because it dries so quickly and draws over almost anything! To add a background, I chose Prang watercolors in several shades of green and blue-green and filled in around the flowers. I had no idea how watercolor would work on this paper, but it worked great!
The lotus flower in the center of the page is a color copy from one of my other Art Journal pages. It's glued to the page with a regular glue stick – nothing fancy. 😉 The shadow beneath the lotus is created with a Stabilo Blue pencil that I activated with a water brush.
Later in the evening while watching tv, I continued playing. I added shading around each flower with Charcoal Pencil. I also added color into each flower with Pastel Pencils. My tool of choice for blending both charcoal and pastels is a Blending Stump. When I was happy with that, I fixed the page with a spray of Workable Fixative.
Last, but not least, I added some sparkle with a White Gelly Roll Pen and final details with the Black Gelly Roll Pen.
During the LIVE! stream chat (join us 2pm Eastern each Friday to chat with us, too!) a viewer asked a great question.
“Why do you Art Journal?” That sparked a fun discussion among the viewers. Answers included:
- “Because I have to!”
- “To try out new products.”
- “To keep from exploding!”
- “To work out head stuff.”
Why do YOU Art Journal? Leave a comment below. I'll pass your answers along next week during our next LIVE! stream.
Until next time ~
