LIVE! Mixed-Media Muppet in Red Glasses

I decided to do something just for fun this week during the HowToGetCreative Show known as Drama-free Friday. I was totally inspired by a canvas I saw in a local store this week. It was a store lined with hundreds of home-dec items and among them was a stack of canvases of dogs wearing glasses. I immediately thought how cute our Muppet would look bedecked in red glasses and jewelry!

I started with an 8″ x 10″ Stretched Canvas to which I added some decorative Tissue Paper with Matte Medium. Once that was dry, I scribbled Gelatos over the tissue with reds, blues and yellows. After liquifying the Gelatos with water and drying them, I brushed a thin coat of Gesso over the entire surface. I partially dried the canvas before using a couple of circle stencils and some Baby Wipes to reveal some of the tissue paper pattern.

My Tracing Paper pattern was held onto the surface with Painter's Tape so that I could slip Graphite Paper under the tracing. A Stylus is the perfect tool for transferring the pattern to the canvas. Once I was sure that all the pattern was transferred, I removed the tracing paper.

After painting Muppet with Acrylic Paints and not-so-fancy Brushes, I finished the edges with black paint and a bit of metallic rub.

Below, you can see Muppet's photo that I used as a reference as well as a photo of my progress at the end of the LIVE stream and also the finished canvas.

PS: I have a feeling the Sponsors may be demanding equal time! See you next week for another Drama-free Friday at 2pm Eastern.
